Sustainability is at the core of what we do... development, impact and solutions!

With this in mind, we've made it our 2024 mission to become a carbon neutral organisation, eliminating our carbon footprint

As well as planting trees across our Global Hubs, we are now investing in reforestation projects in Nepal, Kenya and Madagascar with our partner Evertreen. Evertreen are a certified provider of carbon offset credits who have helped us calculate the carbon footprint generated by our programs and then work with local communities in these countries to plant trees to offset the emissions.

Planting forestry trees in Nepal is vital for environmental sustainability, economic development, and community well-being. Forests play a crucial role in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide, regulating temperatures, and stabilizing soil. In Nepal, reforestation efforts are helping to mitigate soil erosion, reduce the risk of landslides, and preserve vital watersheds that support agriculture and provide clean water.

Planting mangroves in Madagascar and Kenya is essential for coastal protection, environmental sustainability, and community livelihoods. Mangroves act as natural buffers against storm surges and coastal erosion, safeguarding shorelines and protecting inland areas from flooding. In Madagascar, these unique ecosystems support diverse marine life, including fish and crustaceans, which are crucial for local fisheries and food security.

We have calculated how many trees need to be planted to offset the carbon emissions of every Global Citizenship journey!

We calculate the trees planted per person per program based on the average flight distance, the length of your stay, the number of meals provided and the average distance you will travel in-country!

For example:

If you were to participate in our Thailand Elephant and Hill Tribes Challenge, we would plant an average of 13 trees to offset your emissions!

Every participant on our programs also has the chance to get involved in climate action initiatives throughout their time overseas as well. You can expect to plant trees, coordinate community-clean ups and become an ambassador for change as you help us to reduce plastic across our global community.

Once you return home from your challenge, you'll receive a certificate for the trees you have helped us plant through Evertreen. Investing in a Global Citizenship journey is therfore, investing in a greener future for everyone.
