PROGRAM OVERVIEW

In the last 3 generations, elephant populations in Asia have decreased by at least 50%.

Humans are slowly inhabiting more and more of their natural habitat and many elephants are tortured and put to work in the logging and tourism industries. Today there are less than 50,000 Asian elephants in the world.

It’s not just elephants that are facing significant challenges in Thailand. In the remote hill tribe communities in Thailand’s north, up to 33% of the population are living below the poverty line, compared to a national average of 7%. Schools in the region are underfunded, lacking teachers as well as basic resources, which prevents children from receiving an education that could help them break out of the poverty cycle.

Making an Impact

Join a global movement against animal cruelty

Many behaviours such as riding and even touching elephants have been normalised by the tourism industry, and we need your help to raise awareness! Our partner sanctuary is setting the standard for ethical animal welfare around the world and by joining them in their work, you'll have the opportunity to be a part of the animals' road to rehabilitation. Your activities will include:

Australian university students volunteer at an elephant sanctuary in northern Thailand

Preparing food for and feeding the elephants (banana and watermelon are their favourite)!

Australian university students volunteer at elephant nature park in Northern Thailand

Cleaning up after the elephants and helping to maintain the sanctuary's grounds!
