In Tanzania, schools face huge overcrowding issues, with the average primary school classroom holding 66 students. On top of this dropout rates are extremely high, with 57% of secondary school-age children not enrolled at school.
You'll be working with one of our partner schools to help inspire children and create change through education. You'll be designing and delivering a number of workshops on some of the following topics:
Conversational English
STEM
Creative arts
Environmental awareness
Life skills
You might also work on a renovation project to help improve school facilities.
When you arrive in Tanzania you’ll be met by our team at the airport. Over the next few days you’ll have a thorough induction and orientation where you’ll learn about local customs and culture, get your bearings around town, meet community partners and gain a better understanding of the context of the projects you’re working on.
Over two weeks, you’ll work in the community Monday - Friday with your weekend free to travel and explore. Your day will usually be structured with a morning session (approx. 3 hours) after breakfast and then a session of the same length after lunch. Your afternoons and evenings will be free for you to relax or do any required planning for the next day.
On the last day, you’ll either be transported back to the airport or you can join our extension trip - Kilimanjaro trek.
After your Challenge you can join our optional extension trip and trek Kilimanjaro. You’ll be going off the beaten tourist track and up the alternative Machame route, full of wildly beautiful scenery and great access to the remaining glaciers. This is a tough 6-day climb that you will need to ensure you train for in the months before to ensure that you can make it to the rooftop of Africa at 5,895m above sea level!
*Note: if you have other dates in mind or would like to travel as an individual, email us at [email protected] and we’ll be more than happy to help!
